Townsend, Georgia
South Newport Campground offers spacious, shaded sites just off US Highway 17 — a peaceful basecamp for river trips, Sapelo Island adventures, or simply disconnecting from everything but the sound of live oaks.
About Us
South Newport Campground sits along US Highway 17 in Townsend, Georgia — a quiet stretch of coastal country where the pines grow thick and the pace slows down naturally.
We're not a resort with a long check-in line. We're a straightforward, well-kept campground for people who want a clean, level site, reliable water and electric hookups, and the kind of silence that only comes when you're far enough from the highway to forget it's there.
Whether you're pulling in for one night on the way to Sapelo Island or settling in for a week of river fishing and marsh walks, our grounds give you the space and comfort to make it feel like home.
Amenities
We keep our campground practical and well-maintained so you can focus on the outdoors — not on figuring things out.
Spacious pull-through and back-in sites with 30/50-amp electric and water at your pad. RVs, trailers, and tents all welcome on level, well-drained ground.
Trees separate each site, giving you privacy and shade. There's no loud music, no crowded common areas — just the kind of calm that makes camping feel restorative.
We're on-site and easy to reach. Questions, maintenance needs, or last-minute changes — just call and we handle it, usually within the hour.
Well-kept bathroom facilities with hot showers, kept on a regular cleaning schedule. We take pride in the condition of our grounds and expect you to feel it the moment you arrive.
Stay a night, a weekend, or a month — we don't require minimums. Long-term rates are available for seasonal visitors and working crews.
Fire rings at every site, a communal fire pit area, and easy access to hiking trails, the Altamaha River, and Sapelo Island for kayaking and wildlife viewing.
